Welcome to 2024!
Over the holiday season, I hope you took time for personal rejuvenation, be it downtime or travel. I thoroughly enjoyed a two week break, and the accompanying margin it gave me for creativity and rest, was really magical. With each passing year in business - I'm up to 13 now - I realize the value of creating and maintaining space for myself and for the health and longevity of the business.
As we step into 2024, we get the promise of what often feels like a clean slate. We get to take time to envision what the year might look like and build a plan to bring it all to life. If you haven't already, I encourage you to steal away and find some time to do this for your business, whether it's a couple of hours in a coffee shop or hotel or going away for a long weekend. Something awesome happens when we get out of our usual environment.
Towards the end of last year, I took some time to ponder my goals for 2024. My focus remains on creating a platform for thought leaders, visionaries, change-makers, and entrepreneurs with a social purpose to build businesses that are impactful and creating real positive change in the world.
While I was away at my own retreat, I reverse-engineered my goals, particularly my revenue goals, into actionable steps. I'm learning to embrace the concept of doing less to achieving more, without falling into the constant hustle and grind. This is only possible when you're clear on your goals and have a plan to reach them.
As I reflected on my targets, I realized that I don't need to be worried about getting in front of insane numbers of people. And I'd venture to guess the same is true for you. Unless your business operates at scale, you don't need to reach thousands of people. Most of us run high-touch boutique-style businesses, and can't - nor do we want to - serve hundreds of clients at a time. Thus, it's crucial to be intentional about connections and visibility efforts.
Visibility is a crucial aspect I aim to delve deeper into this year. You've heard me say it a hundred times, but I believe everyone has a big idea inside them, and being bold enough to share it creates differentiation between you and potential competitors. For me, this manifests in my passion for closing the gender equity gap through entrepreneurship and thought leadership.
This year, I will be bolder and more visible around this message.
What about you?
Your big idea, your thought leadership, is your competitive advantage. It becomes a magnet for the right people to come to you and repel those who aren't a good fit. As we move forward, I encourage you to think about these questions:
What is your big idea?
What is your point of view on the issues in your industry or in the area you're passionate about?
How are you trying to make the world a better place?
I'm excited about what 2024 is going to bring: sustainable growth, creating intentional impact, and using my voice boldly. I aim to flourish and thrive in every aspect of my life.
As I leave you with these thoughts, what are your hopes for 2024, and if you have one, what is your word for this year?
Be bold. Be brave. Go make an impact!
