What Happens When You Build The Wrong Business?
Behind every business that looks polished and powerful from the outside is a woman navigating the messy middle. Often, she’s caught up in the swirl of too many ideas, disconnected from her brilliance and how she talks about it, or feeling the deep frustration of knowing she’s meant for more but unsure how to get there.
Over the next few blog posts, I’m sharing stories from real clients. These high-achieving, purpose-driven women came to me with big ambitions, a massive sense of purpose, and a ton of heart, but they were also exhausted, mired down in doubt, or struggling to gain traction. Their stories anchor the deeper truth behind what I teach: clarity isn’t optional, it’s your most important catalyst for growth and impact.
Whether you’re feeling stuck, invisible, or out of alignment with your business, my hope is that you’ll see yourself in these women and get a glimpse of what becomes possible when you get clear on what you’re really here to say and lead.
When Jen Morris came to me, she was already running a highly profitable business, but deep down, she felt called to build something different.
She had a bold vision for Renegade Motherhood, a brand for moms and business owners rooted in real community, values-driven leadership, and cultural relevance, but turning that vision into something cohesive (and sustainable) was another story.
Jen was juggling more ideas than she could manage and being pulled off course by shiny strategies and systems that didn’t quite fit. Sticking with anything felt hard, which made consistency a struggle. Despite her success to date, she couldn’t shake the feeling that she was building a business that no longer reflected who she was becoming.
Her true goal? Finally bring Renegade Motherhood to life in a way that felt aligned, bold, and true.
It’s An Alignment Issue
The women I work with are brilliant. They bring deep expertise, passion, and a heart for service. They’ve done the work to build their businesses from the ground up, and they know how to work hard. In many cases, they’ve never met a problem they couldn’t solve, so when they find themselves second-guessing every decision to the point of paralysis, it catches them off guard.
They already know all the “right” things to do, but no matter how hard they grind, how many times they tweak their website, or throw out a new offer, nothing moves.
That’s because it’s not a mechanics issue. It’s an alignment issue.
They’ve outgrown the version of their brand that’s been working.
That’s where Jen was.
Every time we took the next “logical” step in her business, everything from refining her offers, playing around with a new podcast, crafting new messaging, and even hosting masterclasses she knew would be helpful, she hit resistance. That resistance wasn’t because she didn’t believe in herself or her expertise. Deep down, she knew she was trying to scale a business that didn’t actually reflect what she wanted to create or lead.
So we pushed the pause button.
She zoomed out and got clear. She dug into who she is, what she wanted to create, and more importantly, what her unique perspective–her big idea–was.
The work was not about mechanics or tactics. It was to find the anchor she needed to ground herself and her business and to develop the unifying theme of her message, and go all in on that.
The Turning Point: Soul-Aligned Clarity
Jen was already hosting a powerful networking event for moms, but she wasn’t totally sure what she wanted it to be or do long term.
Together, we unpacked the heart of what she really wanted to say and build: a community where moms could do business and mothering on their own terms.
We looked at the cultural moment she was speaking into, the real pressures mothers face, the systemic gaps, the power of collective visibility and care, and she built from the ground up.
Her idea wasn’t just to build a business. It was to build a “mother f’kin movement!” A movement rooted in values, fueled by community, and driven by a clear, unapologetic perspective.
She went all-in on Renegade Motherhood, and everything changed.
Clarity Isn’t a Luxury. It’s a Prerequisite for Impact.
Jen’s story isn’t unusual.
So many brilliant women are quietly building the wrong business. They’re pouring energy into ideas that aren’t aligned, messaging that doesn’t resonate, and strategies that don’t feel good.
They’re using ChatGPT as if it will give them the answers they’re desperate for, when in reality, the answers can’t be found that way.
That’s because they’re already inside them. They just need to be unpacked.
It’s no wonder we feel stuck and tired. It’s no wonder visibility and content creation feels like a chore instead of a calling.
I’ve said it a million times: clarity isn’t just about having a polished elevator pitch or a cute brand voice. Clarity is about knowing what you stand for, what your audience needs, and what idea you’re willing to build your whole business around.
And when that clarity is rooted in your values, your lived experience, expertise, and your vision for change, you become unstoppable.

It starts when we stop stacking strategies on top of a foundation that doesn’t fit anymore. Like Jen, you have to zoom out, ask better questions, and listen for the truth you’ve been too busy to hear.
